onx products are built by adventurers, for adventurers. Their current suite of navigation apps includes onx Hunt, onx Offroad, and onx Backcountry. I was recruited by onx's Product Design Director and tasked with 3 initiatives to design solutions for: The new Backcountry app, key updates to their Hunt app UI, and heading up the design for the highly anticipated Activity Modes feature.
My job was to create a Backcountry app UI and an updated Hunt experience that would feel congruent with the established branding while concurrently implementing new feature sets and UI elements in collaboration with the Design Systems lead. Additionally, I needed to ensure parity with concurrent marketing web redesign efforts. A lot of initiatives in-motion that needed to remain sync'd and tell a cogent story.
After many rounds of design iteration and usability testing in an agile setting, the app updates were released and met with solid acclaim from users. Most notably, the Snow Mode feature, with terrain and snow conditions, 140,000 miles of snowmobile trails in 30 U.S. states, slope angle overlays, and localized avalanche forecasts, made for an unparalleled winter experience and would become an indespensible feature for onx app users.
